29 Tips On Building Your Facebook Page The Right Way (Part 1)

29 Tips On Building Your Facebook Page The Right Way (Part 1)

I have seen so many people building their Facebook Business Page the wrong way.  Jon Loomer lays out 29 steps on how to build your page for success. Where there are so many tips, I am going to make this a two part article.

Here is the check list you should go by:

1. Brand Your Page: You want to be consistent in your marketing and you want to pick a name so people can find you.  I use my name for all of my social media sites.  It just makes it easier for people to find me when they are searching.  Plus I am branding "YOU INC." 2. Pick A Vanity URL:  You need to make your Facebook Page the same as the title of it.  Mine is http://facebook.com/anitawaltonlevesque  You can do this by going to your administrative panel and edit settings.  Go to page info and you can change your URL.  Here is a picture of what it looks like. Update Your About Section:  Your about section is under your Timeline Photo.  If you want to drive people to your website, make sure you put your website Url in this section as well as a brief description of what you do. Screen Shot 2013-12-03 at 8.48.18 AM   4. Optimize For Search Engines: Did you know that your Facebook Page is indexed by Google?  Make sure when you are filling your About Section, Mission, Awards and Products should be rich with keywords so Google will find you. 5. Must Have A Strategy: If I build it they will come.  Not going to happen.  What are your goals for your page?  Who is going to manage it?  Are you trying to build a fan base, potential clients, increase clients or subscriptions?  These are all thing you need to keep in mind when creating your Business Page. 6. Create A Content Calendar: This will help you when you schedule your posts.  I have a theme for each day of the week.  It helps coming up with posts for that day.  I also have a social media manager that helps me schedule posts for my social media sites. 7. Assign Roles: If you do this yourself, you can skip this part.  If you have people working for you, assign them roles.  One could do the daily posting while another one can do the promotional posts for your products. 8. Tell Your Story With A Cover Photo: As people say "A picture is worth a thousand words."  Get someone to design one for you.  I usually use Fiverr.com.  For $5.00 you can have a Facebook Timeline Cover done that looks professional. 9. Use Engaging Profile Picture: You don't have to go out and have some professional pictures taking but do have some taken that look professional.  You should wear a nice outfit when having them done.  You want to "Dress for success." 10. Create Professional  Look Tabs: These are the three boxes just under your Timeline Photo and there are 8 more hidden underneath. Create tabs that are appealing to people that they want to click on them.  Make your first three count as the majority of people will not see the hidden ones. 11. Know The Ideal Image Sizes: a. Timeline Photo: 851 x 315 b. profile picture: 180 x 180 c. tabs: 111 x 74 d. shared photo: 403 x 403 e. highlight: 843 x 403 f. milestone: 843 x 403 12. Promote Your Page: Now that you have created your page, you need people to see it.  Invite friends, invite clients, add a signature line to your e-mails and website posts, and add a like box to your website. Screen Shot 2013-12-03 at 10.31.34 AM   These are all free ways to promote your page.  You can also use Facebook Ads to get more likes. 13. Use Your Insights: There are a lot of stats you can use and most people ignore it.  It tells you what type of content your fans are engaging with and when they are most like to engage, age group as well as male or female.  This can be very handy when designing your posts as well as who to target with your Facebook ads. 14. Respond To Fans: This is very important.  If people are commenting on your posts you better be responding or they will go elsewhere. By responding you are building your brand. I am going to stop this post here and give you the last 15 tips tomorrow.  If this post was helpful, please share and comment below. 1. This was fantastic. I operate a “large to me” FB page, and all of this is spot on. You have to engage, be careful what you post, reach out to your readers, and have a plan, or it can quickly suck time up that you would otherwise be spending doing things like working on your blog. Eager to read tomorrow’s post.
    Blessings to you,

    1. Thanks Heather. I agree, it can suck the life out of you when you are starting out. So many people who want to be on Facebook but do not know what to do I thought this would help them out. Anita

  2. Hey Anita,

What an awesome break down for building a Facebook fanpage! I can tell you took the time to share the step by step details. The mistake that I see the most is that many people do not use vanity URL’s. I think it’s important that everyone use that option if they have a fanpage. That’s my take on it. Thanks Anita!

    1. You are welcome. I will have the rest up today for you to take a look. Anytime you can get a vanity URL, especially for affiliate links is a must. Thanks for stopping by. Anita
