Have you noticed that Facebook ads appear everywhere, not just in the right hand column but on pages, apps, photos, groups and on home pages. You have no control over where these ads appear.
Facebook changes all of the time and getting started with Facebook Ads can be a bit confusing. There are several ways that you can promote your content on Facebook.
1. Facebook Ad
There are ads that show up on the right column of pages. Not all of these ads take you off Facebook but a good portion of them do. When you create a tab, the first thing you are going to see is the URL. You need to either put your website, blog or a landing page URL in there before you can continue. Even if you are sending them to your landing page, you still have to put the URL in there.
These posts are limited as you have so many characters to write in the headline and in the content box. You have to be creative to do these ads. Make sure you have a catchy headline to want people to click on your ad as well as good content. Don't make any claims that you will make all this money with XYZ. Make sure your ad is consistent with where you are taking people when they click on that ad.
2. Facebook promoted post.
These are ads that you promote right on your business page or your personal Timeline. These ads only go out into the newsfeed. If you are not having any luck getting people to notice your page, this is a good way to get noticed. You can do a questionnaire, add valuable content, or an offer you are promoting. This also helps increase your Edge Rank and people talking about you.
I promoted this post as I am running a Christmas Photo Contest and wanted people to register to win a Kindle or a custom made Facebook Business Page and one on one coaching. This is a great way to get people engaged with your page.
3. Sponsored Stories
Facebook defines a Sponsored Story as messages coming from friends about them engaging with your Page, app or event that a business, organization or individual has paid to highlight so there’s a better chance people see them. These ads will be seen in the right hand column. The reason I use these as you are not limited on how long your posts are. They have a different look and you are keeping you
Many times I will write a post or promote a webinar, and promote it by creating an ad to that post. Instead of promoting it on the page, like the one above, you have to go in the back office. Where you see URL, you scroll down and click on your Fan Page. You can pick which post you want to promote by clicking on the arrow, the posts will drop down, click on the one you want to promote. These ads you have to choose the demographics, age, target group and how much you pay for a click.
The picture above of my puppy dogs, was also promoted as a sponsored ad. Not only will show in the newsfeed, like the one above, but it will now show in the right hand column. Not only are you targeting your like and friends of likes, but who you targeted in your ad.
