Is Your Timeline Photo and Ads Legal?
You have probably heard lately that Facebook is cracking down on what you can put on your Timeline photos. In the last few weeks people have been waking up just to fine out that their pages have been removed. Is your Timeline photo within the guidelines?
Facebook does not want Timeline photos to start looking like banner ads. They are limiting the amount of text you can put on your photo. Any cover photos or News Feed Ads are limited to only 20% of text. This policy is going into effect on Jan. 15 and Facebook is preparing tools to keep advertisers compliant.
I have looked around Facebook and have seen Timeline Photos with website addresses, call to action, address' and e-mail addresses on them. These are all forbidden and Facebook will shut you down.
Website URL's can be put on your business page but it has to be under your profile picture. Make sure it is a clickable link and add a brief description of what your website or blog is about.
A call to action is like BUY IT NOW button or 40% off. If you are promoting a webinar, a product or e-book, make a post and promote it. You can also put an URL in the post to send them to your website, a registration link or to a squeeze page.
You can not use an arrow to point to any of the features on your page as well. You can not have anything pointing to a like or share button. When posting, you can ask them to like or share your post.
Facebook is developing a a grid-based text overlay detection tool to identify non-compliant images. This is going to be made available to advertisers so it will help them stay within the guidelines. Just a to let you know, if you have text within your logo, that counts towards the 20%.
Pages are allowed to have images with more than 20% as long as they are not going into the news feed like promoted posts.
Facebook is changing all of the time and it is sometimes hard to keep up with them all. If you are planning on a campaign or want to change things up on your Timeline or ads, make sure you are within the guidelines. If you are not quite sure, ask so you do not get your business shut down.
