  I think this is one thing that everyone struggles with when they are trying to improve their diet.  Think about what small things you can remove from your diet rather than what you can add to it. To be successful, focus on the small items that will change how you feel and give you that extra boost throughout the day.

Here are some examples on how to cut calories and junk from your diet.

Get Rid of Soda:  I use to drink Coca Cola from the time I got up in the morning till the time I     went to bed.  That is all that I drank.  I hardly ever drank water.  I gave soda up for lent 2 years ago and have not had another Coca Cola since.

Why should you give up soda you ask.  These drinks are absolutely packed with simple sugars.           After you drink a soda, it makes you thirsty so you drink more and also makes you feel hungry.           There are a lot of calories in a can of soda and contributes to fat storage.

Stop adding sugar: Stop adding sugar to your tea, coffee or cereal.  Once again, this adds unnecessary calories and then creates hunger pangs following your release of insulin that will suck up all of your sugar and leave you shaky.  If you keep adding sugar to your food, you will become accustomed to things tasting sweet.  You have now developed a sweet tooth.  Nothing is going to be satisfying to you unless you sprinkle sugar on top of your food.

Your Morning Coffee:  What are you putting into your morning coffee?  People will argue if coffee is good for you or not but for this article, it is what you are putting into it that adds the extra calories to your diet.  When you stop at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts in the morning, think of the large amounts of creme, milk and sugar that is added to your coffee.  If you just drink your coffee black without all of the extras would cut 100 to 200 calories immediately.

Remove the Butter:  This is my weakness.  I use so much butter on my baked potato that my husband jokes about the lack of potato under all of that butter.  I am sorry but I don't like a dry potato.  Butter itself is not unhealthy but if you cut butter out of your diet would reduce the calorie intake.  My Mom always put butter on our bread when making sandwiches.  She still does today.  Get rid of the butter and just use the mayonnaise or mustard which will help in losing weight.

Sharing Desserts: Like many of you, I love desserts.  It is hard to pass up when everyone else is indulging.  Instead of eating the whole slice of cake, how about sharing it with someone. By sharing your slice of pie, you are saving money if you are at a restaurant and reducing your calorie intake.
