Are You Using Social Media To Tell Your Story?
A couple of weeks ago, I listened to Mari Smith interviewing New York Times bestselling author Gary Vaynerchuk talk about his new book, "Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook." He was so interesting to listen to that I ordered his book as soon as the interview was over.
This book is all about telling your story in a noisy social world. I got the book in the mail yesterday and am intrique the information he has provided in the first two chapters. Did you know that it took Nike several stories before they hit the mark, "Just Do It." Supermarkets and restaurants know that the best time to run an ad on the radio is around 5:00 PM while parents are picking children up from after school programs, dance classes or ball practices. Moms are usually thinking what they are going to have for dinner that night.
Gary Vaynerchuk writes, "Like great boxers, great storytellers are observant and self aware. A great storyteller is keenly attuned to his audience: he knows when to slowdown for maximum suspense and when to speed up for comic effect. He can sense when he's losing interest and can make adjustments to his tone or even to the story itself to recapture their attention. Online marketing requires the same kind of audience awareness, which we can achieve thanks to the tremendous data mining opportunities at our fingertips."
Most people who are great storytellers sells things. They create an emotion for those customers to become buyers. He uses Disney as an example. Disney wants people to book plane tickets, hotel rooms and spend all their money at the park. I am all sure you have heard this "You can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink." The only way to get the horse or a customer to buy is through native content.
An example of native content is e-mail marketing. Storytellers offered value with their e-mail sequence which got their attention and jabbed them enough to put them in the buying mindset.
Here are three chararcteristcs for a perfect right hook.
1. They make the call to action simple and easy to understand.
2. They are perfectedly crafted for mobile, as well as digital devices.
3. They respect the nuances of the social network for which you are making the content.
I know I have just started to read the book but was blown away by all the golden nuggests there is just in the first two chapters.
If you would like a copy of this book, it is being sold on Amazon for $17.00
When I get more into the book, I will share what I have learned. If you found this help, please share and comment below.
